Student athletes have a tough balancing act to perform every day – juggling training, academic, and social demands and this has an effect on their mental health and on their performance in all areas of their lives.
Sports psychologists help athletes achieve their goals as an individual and as a member of a team. Many factors contribute to game day performance and a sports psychologist looks at the whole athlete and the balance between their sport and the rest of their lives.
Sports psychology uses various techniques to enhance performance. Some might be individual and address issues such as eating disorders or gender identity, depression or anxiety. Others might be team based to help with stress management, effective teamwork, or concentration control.
